While US Congress pushes a bill to block GMO food labeling, countries like China drop 85% of US corn import
US farmers have lost more than $427 million in sales after China rejected imports of US corn shipments that contained traces of unapproved GMO maize. According to RT, since November last year, China has been blocking US corn because of the presence of the MIR162 genetically modified corn strain (developed by giant biotech Syngenta) in their shipments. In fact, since January 2014, US corn export to China has dropped 85% from the previous year.
Since the year 2000, China had significantly increased its import of US corn (from purchasing 47,000 tons of corn in 2008 to purchasing 5 million tons of corn last year). China was the third largest importer of US corn before the ban on Syngenta’s GMO strain by the Chinese government.
While congress is trying to block GMO labeling in US, 50 other countries including China have banned Syngenta’s GMO corn and have required GMO labeling:
Even a country like China that puts Melamine (a chemical fire retardant) in their baby’s formula blocks the import of US shipments that contain unapproved GE corn. However, US isn’t any better than China in regards of toxic chemicals in infant formula since recently CDC found a toxic chemical used in rocket fuel known as “perchlorat” in nearly 15 brands of US infant formulas including Similac and Enfamil.
How can we let giant chemical and biotech companies including Monsanto, DuPont, Dow, Bayer, Syngenta, Pepsico, Coca Cola, Nestle, ConAgra, Dole, and Campbell’s Soup pour millions of dollars to kill GMO food labeling and bribe corrupt politicians to vote in their favor?
Apparently the communist countries like China (that are heavily criticized or are regarded as ‘dictatorship’ in US) care more about their people’s health while in US the congress tries to block GMO labeling:
A new bill introduced to Congress by US Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) is trying to ban states from implanting their own GMO labeling laws. The proposal is titled the “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act” and is meant to forbid states from mandating GMO labeling.
According to Reuters, Rep. Pompeo says that "We've got a number of states that are attempting to put together a patchwork quilt of food labeling requirements with respect to genetic modification of foods. That makes it enormously difficult to operate a food system. Some of the campaigns in some of these states aren't really to inform consumers but rather aimed at scaring them. What this bill attempts to do is set a standard."
Rep. Pompeo also said that the biotech companies say that GMO crops are safe and site many scientific studies that back up those claims about the safety of GMOs (not to mention that these studies are often paid or sponsored by giant biotech).
"It has to date made food safer and more abundant," says Pompeo. "It has been an enormous boon to all of humanity." However, Rep. Pompeo fails to cite other independent scientific studies that have linked GMOs to a wide range of diseases including infertility, cancer, autism, gastrointestinal problems, and kidney or liver toxicity. Many of these independent scientists are either under attack or threatened if they publish findings that are not aligned with message of biotech corporate PR.
GMOs are not just bad for your health, but also the environment. Reports have shown that many US farm lands are developing resistant to Monsanto’s popular weedkiller while organic and non-GMO farms are affected with wide spread GE contamination.
The bill introduced by US Rep. Mike Pompeo is written and sponsored by evil GMA which is ran by the interests of giant biotech and chemical companies. Center for Food Safely has strongly criticized Evil Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) for lobbying to push and pass the legislation to block states from mandating labeling genetically modified foods: http://www.seattleorganicrestaurants.com/vegan-whole-food/grocery-manufacturers-association-is-pushing-for-legislation-that-will-kill-state-gmo-labeling.php
“They know that the food movement's power is growing and that labeling is not a matter of if but when." says Colin O'Neil, director of government affairs for the Center for Food Safety, a non-profit group that supports mandatory GMO labeling. They are afraid of state action and now they're trying to steal away consumer choice in Congress."
Americans should be concerned about what they put in their mouth, since GMOs and biotech top selling chemicals including Roundup and neonicotinoids aren’t just affecting people’s health but killing millions of bees, birds and butterflies.
Thanks to biotech plans to feed their shareholders at the expense of our health and biodiversity of our planet, we are running out of foods that we like to eat. Apparently we cannot even regulate companies who benefit from pollution, mass chemical poisoning, toxic wastes, global warming and extensive use of chemicals and pesticides since they have enough money to hire lobbyists or bribe corrupt politicians and US members of congress.
Politicians up for sale: Why don’t Koch-Backed Congressman‘ Rep. Pompeo’ and the rest of US congress who support blocking GMO food labeling don’t come out of the closet and admit that they have sold their souls to the devil?
Koch Industries and Monsanto have teamed up to kill ‘Your Right to Know’. According to Center for Food Safely, Monsanto and Koch Industries have now finally a sponsor and a poppet in Congress to do their dirty work “Rep. Mike Pompeo”.
“GMA’s selection of Congressman Pompeo as their champion shows how extreme the proposal really is,” said Colin O’Neil, director of government affairs for Center for Food Safety. “Selecting Pompeo creates an unholy alliance between Monsanto and Koch Industries, two of the most reviled corporations in America.”
Amazingly, the single largest recipient of campaign funds for Congressman Mike Pompeo came from the Koch Brothers back in 2010. According to centerforfoodsafety.org, “after winning the election with Koch money, Congressman Pompeo hired a Koch Industries lawyer to run his office. Congressman Pompeo then introduced bills friendly to Koch Industries while Koch hired outside lobbyists to support them”.
A subsidiary of Koch Industries known as ‘Georgia-Pacific’ is also a member of Evil GMA that donated more than $7 million against GMO food labeling in Washington. Between California and Washington, GMA, Monsanto, DuPont, Dow and others have contributed more than $67 million to keep an average consumer in dark about what they are eating.
“With Vermont, Oregon and other states poised to take action this year, it is clear that GMA is scared of what’s ahead,” says O’Neil. “They know that the food movement’s power is growing and that labeling is not a matter of if but when. They are afraid of state action and now they’re trying to steal away consumer choice in Congress.”
