USDA approves the second generation of GMOs resistant to more toxic herbicide
Just when you thought scientists' concern regarding herbicide Roundup has elevated to the highest level ever and there are too many studies pointing to toxic elements of Roundup that is a serious hazard to human’s health as well as the environment - the USDA quietly approves the second generation of GMOs resistant to even more toxic herbicide.
Apparently Roundup wasn’t ruining the planet, and threatening people's lives, fast enough, so the giant agrichemical company Bayer got USDA approval for the second generation of genetically modified soybeans that can withstand direct application of toxic herbicide isoxaflutole (IFT).
EPA classifies IFT as ‘Probable Human Carcinogen’:
The governments' EPA’s data sheet calls herbicide isoxaflutole (IFT) a probable human carcinogen. According to EPA’s data sheet “based upon a battery of acute toxicity studies, Balance Herbicide is classified as Toxicity Category III. Isoxaflutole demonstrates developmental toxicity and has been classified as a Group B2 carcinogen (probable human carcinogen). The data available at this time indicate that isoxaflutole is very phytotoxic. Isoxaflutole is persistent and mobile, and may leach and accumulate in groundwater and through surface water”. Studies have shown herbicide isoxaflutole (IFT) can trigger liver and thyroid tumor in laboratory animals. According to researchers, although isoxaflutole (IFT) isn’t commonly used at the moment, its presence is persistent in surface waters and frequently detected in tests.
According to Bill Freese, the science policy analyst at Center for Food Safety “Bayer’s new GE soybeans represent the next wave in agricultural biotechnology—crops that dramatically increase farmers’ use and dependence on deadlier herbicides.”
When GMO crops lose their resistant to combat weeds and pests, the biotech waves its magic wand and comes up with deadlier form of chemicals:
Research shows that the first generation of GMO crops has become resistant to toxic herbicide glyphosate. In fact, glyphosate has lost its full effectiveness to combat pests and weeds and has led to Increase in superweeds and superbugs.
Monsanto’s toxic glyphosate has also played a major role in drastic decline in Monarch and bees population. In fact, research shows that Roundup kills Monarch food and the toxic pollen from GMO corn (filled with BT toxin) ends up killing butterflies: http://www.seattleorganicrestaurants.com/vegan-whole-food/gmo-roundup-bt-toxin-are-destroying-our-health-killing-birds-bees-lady-bugs-butterflies.php
“Bayer and other biotech companies are now poised to introduce a host of ‘next-generation’ GE crops resistant to more toxic herbicides as a false ‘solution’ to massive weed resistance,” says Freese. “But their effect will be to generate still more intractable weeds resistant to multiple herbicides. It’s ironic that supposedly ‘cutting-edge’ biotechnology is taking American agriculture a half-century and more backwards into a more toxic past.”
The chemical company Dow is also waiting for the approval of ‘Agent Orange Corn’:
New varieties of genetically modified corn and soybean resistant to toxic chemical 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) are waiting for USDA approval. 2,4-D, is one of the main ingredients in Agent Orange which was used during the Vietnam war against the Vietnamese and cambodian civilians. Now, 2,4-D is pushed into the market as an herbicide by the chemical company Dow: http://www.seattleorganicrestaurants.com/vegan-whole-food/usda-moves-forward-with-approval-of-agent-orange-corn-soy-resistant-to-toxic-herbicide-2-4-D.php
Biotech is taking us towards a more herbicide dependent agriculture when they promised otherwise:
Since introduction of GMOs, the use of toxic herbicides has increased by 527 million pounds. The governmental regulatory agencies including FDA and USDA are as corrupt as the giant biotech since they have been approving deadlier form of herbicides when we already have enough problems with the existing ones.
It’s disappointing to know that more than 30 countries have banned GMOs and 60 other countries have required GMO labeling, but the giant biotech in US spends millions of dollars, most of it to bribe members of US Congress, putting them into office or taking them out by support opponents, to kill GMO labeling, The rest of the money is being spent on false advertising, false equivalency, and false disinformation. Thanks to corrupted and bribed members of US Congress, deadlier forms of toxic chemicals are regulated and considered safe when GMO crops have lost their effectiveness to combat weeds and pests. These chemicals are deadly carcinogens that damage every organ in human body. Forget about labeling them. Why don’t we simply ban them? 30 other countries have.
